Much like the Lily Valley Bag, the Three Rounds Full bag was born out of my experimenting with what felted material could do. Could you put eyelets into the fabric? How much of a shape could one really impart on the felted material if it was shaped while sopping wet? If the piece isn’t neatly sewn together, could the felting process impart structural integrity? The answer turned out to be “yes” to all of those questions.
Now what on earth does one do with a bag that is three cylinders lined up in a row? That was my next question. I found out that I could create the bag in this shape, but how could I use it. A water bottle, my purse necessities, and a third cylinder could be taken on any quick trip. I like the way my drop spindling can be stored in this shape of bag, but the felt attracts the wool roving so much that I do find it a bit difficult for it to be an on the go spindle bag (at least without sewing some kind of lining into the cylinders). Finally, depending on the diameter of each cylinder, I think this could be an excellent two-at-a-time sock bag. One cylinder for each ball of yarn and then the center cylinder could hold the socks themselves.
I will admit that I have made two of these and don’t often use them (I like to take everything I may possibly need with me when I leave the house). But they are so fun to make! Loosely knit stockinette stitch in the round, a few color changes, a round or more of simple eyelets, then its minimally finished off before sent for a whirl in the washing machine to felt it up. The trickiest part I came across was finding the right sized bottles or jars to block out the rounded shape.
