About

I can vaguely remember learning how to knit at some point during my childhood, but it was not until college that I picked up the habit. With so much free time living on campus as a freshman, I wanted something more to do. So over spring break, I found some old yarn and knitting needles at my parent's house and brought it back to school with me. I have no idea where that first little purse is now (probably wasting away in a thrift store, if its lucky) but the skills and joy I found making it are certainly with me still.

As I continued my creative pursuits, I found myself frequently changing patterns to better suit my needs. A little bit more fabric here, a slightly different shape there. Until one day, I found a pattern that was almost exactly what I wanted. It was again a purse (I'm very predictable), but the pattern I found was very flat. I don't know why so many knit purses are just envelopes, because you cannot fit anything into them. So I decided to take the picture as my jumping off point, and modify absolutely everything else about the bag.

It was still over a year before I realized that I had designed this bag (and a couple others by that point). After moving to join my husband in Portland, OR, I began to look into if this was something that I could do as a part time job. Turns out that it was! Plus I already had a couple of patterns written out (in very legible and detailed shorthand I assure you), so I got off to a running start.

That was just over three years ago now, and I continue on my quest to develop innovated and useful hand knitting patterns. What began as my own personal pickiness has transformed into exploring fibers, texture, shape, and structure in handbags, worn accessories, and even a few garments. I hope that in my exploration of the hand knitting world I am able to share with others unique construction techniques, exciting stitch patterns, and the ability to create something exactly as you wanted it.
