Snow Day Dreaming

The meteorologists in here in Portland always seem to predict snow, only for school children citywide to feel disappointed when it's only rain and they have to go to school like normal. Today, they had it right, and I am sitting on the couch looking out the window to see a nearly whited out scene before me! Be sure that I am snuggled tightly by a bulky sweater, with wool socks on my feet and a hand-knit blanket on my lap, so there is no need for more knits. But there is one thing I would love to have today...

Some beautiful fair isle sweaters! So off to Pinterest I went to day dream and lightly plan a someday sweater. I love the light colors in these swatches.

For a nice polar opposite, I was fully drawn to the boldness of this sweater. I love the larger motifs, which could be done in any color collection.

Like these. Imagine these colors used with larger motifs all over! I can't help loving this one, it is pink after all.

I also can't resist greens. Especially with the pops of blue and purples. This one may technically be a "faux isle" where the knitter uses a self striping yarn for one of the colors to mimic the gradual color changes of traditional fair isle without all the different yarns and ends to weave in.

I love this sweater, even though its a bit harder to see. I like that the traditional fair isle patterns are paired with generous ribbing along the cuffs, hem, and neckline. Imagine having a snuggly sized sweater with a big dramatic shawl collar!

Realistically, I could knit a pair of color work socks. They would take less time and yarn than a sweater, but may not have the drama. Unless I chose some really fantastic yarns...
